Quick instructions

How to Use the Affiliate Commission & Break-Even Calculator

Model an affiliate campaign by combining offer economics, conversion assumptions, traffic cost, and fixed campaign expenses.

  1. Enter the offer economics.Add the product price, your commission percentage, and a realistic expected refund rate.
  2. Add traffic and conversion assumptions.Enter expected visitors or clicks, conversion rate, and average cost per click. Then add fixed costs such as content, creative, software, or other campaign expenses.
  3. Read the break-even results.Use expected profit, net commission per sale, EPC, break-even sales, break-even visitors, maximum break-even CPC, and ROI to judge whether the campaign assumptions are viable.

Tip: Start with a conservative conversion rate. The sensitivity section shows how results change if conversion performance is weaker or stronger than your base assumption.

Example values — not benchmarks: This calculator opens with sample numbers so you can see how it works. Replace them with your own figures before relying on the result. Outputs are mathematical scenarios based on the values and assumptions you enter; they are not forecasts, guarantees or expected performance.

Why EPC and Break-Even CPC Matter

Commission rate alone does not tell you whether an affiliate campaign is viable. Refunds reduce the expected value of a sale, conversion rate determines how often clicks become buyers, and traffic plus content costs determine how much you can afford to acquire those clicks.

Net commission per sale = product price × commission rate × (1 − refund rate).

EPC = net commission per sale × conversion rate.

Maximum break-even CPC is approximately the EPC before fixed costs. Your practical CPC ceiling is lower when content and software costs are included.

Use Conservative Conversion Assumptions

The calculator shows a lower, base and higher conversion scenario. Treat the lower scenario as a reality check rather than assuming the best case.

Calculation Transparency

The calculations run in your browser and use the values shown on the page. IM Review HQ does not insert hidden industry averages into the result. Where the calculator offers confidence, growth, conversion or time-horizon assumptions, those assumptions are part of the scenario you choose.

For planning, run at least three versions: a conservative case, a base case and an optimistic case. If a purchase only looks attractive under the most optimistic assumptions, treat that as a risk signal rather than a prediction.

Limitations

This calculator does not predict traffic quality, approval rates, cookie attribution, network reversals or future conversion rates. It is a planning model, not an earnings forecast.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EPC?

EPC means earnings per click. Here it is modeled as expected net commission per sale multiplied by conversion rate.

Should I use the advertised commission rate?

Use the rate you reasonably expect to receive. Some programs have tiers, recurring commissions, exclusions or different rates by product.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. No signup or payment is required.
